Sun Damage

Very strong sunlight, over years, will fade portions of your antique rugs. Some colors—like yellows, bright and dark reds and oranges are especially prone to fading. Sun shining around furniture may also cause discoloration. One option is to hang sheer curtain panels that stay closed all day. Or, keep shades closed during peak sun hours and rotate rugs exposed to sun every few months. The installation of sun-blocking window films can also help.

Taking steps to prevent sun damage is a lot easier than the alternatives of having the rug sheered or redyed by a Oriental rug restoration professional.
